What Everyone Else Says
Science is the understanding of principles. Art is the skillful application of principles. Chris is one of the few who has mastered both the science and art of the Principles of Design and Finishing. I believe him to be a brilliant educator and a creative genius. Those who aspire to be extraordinary hairdressers will do well as his student.

We are very excited to tell you how well [your] curriculum works. Our students are able to start out with more accuracy and stimulate their creativity earlier on in the hair cutting process.
They all saw you at Premier and were able to follow you very well, knew what you were talking about and were able to come back and immediately apply the techniques they learned. They even went to other manufacturers' booths and knew right away the terminology and could come back and duplicate the looks they learned.
In fact, one of our students asked the platform artist if what they were doing was called a straight graduation, [and] they did not know how to answer her.
This will be a new generation of hair dressers, who will understand from the beginning what they are doing and why. I know we will be raising the bar in our industry with this type of education.
Thank you for your help in providing the tools we need to make such a difference.

My specialty is in nails, waxing, and ethnic styling. I am an educator with The Salon Professional Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and we are implementing your DVD training system. I just got done watching your DVD on finishing and WOW WOW WOW, did I say WOW? I thought I could never have a passion for something as equally as I do nails and you made me stay up all night in suspense, watching your hand positioning, figuring out what product you were using, and so on. And I loved your technique for placing Marcel waves-- PERFECT! I tried your suggestion of placing the iron a 1/2 inch below the crest of the wave and hello PERFECT. It takes a lot of concentration to do them [without making] her look like Tina Turner when you're done, lol. Thank you soooooooooo much!

After receiving a copy of Chris Baran’s DVD, Fuel For Design, I was so pleased to see technical cutting explained in a way that was easy to understand for any one regardless of their level of ability.
The DVD inspired me to create fresh ways to teach this subject, a way to get the message across. It was a new focus, an outlook on how to teach this subject. The DVD was on repeat for weeks leading up to the class. I had new diagrams, cut designs and head shapes to illustrate the different cuts.
One of the problems [that] students come to Redken’s Principles of Design to resolve is understanding graduation. Chris’s DVD gave me a better understanding of graduation which in turn led me to be able to facilitate more effectively, not only in a classroom format but also within my salon.
At the end of the workshop, students [with various levels of experience] were invited to share their thoughts, [and] almost all of the class said, "I finally understand graduation!" An A-Ha! moment for everyone.
Chris Baran’s Fuel For Design, as an educational tool, is a must for any salon. A perfect addition to your reference tools, it covers everything you need to know to get you started or to motivate you to become better at what you already do. This is working smarter…not harder.
